Ergonomic & Posture Correction
Ergonomics is the science of designing the job, equipment, and workplace to fit the worker. Proper Ergonomic design is necessary to prevent postural strain and repetitive strain injuries, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability. Dysfunctional Posture is often significantly aggravated, or even caused, by poor Ergonomic design. Therefore, one of the most effective ways to improve your Posture is to correct your Ergonomics.
Poor Ergonomic design may be obvious, but the solutions may or may not be easy or obvious. For example, I frequently recommend that my clients invest in a headset telephone — technology that has only become effective and affordable for consumers in the last few years, and so many people have never even considered this solution.
Improving the Ergonomic design of your office or home may seem simple but is often done poorly. The benefits of having a professional evaluate your Ergonomics can be very effective at decreasing your pain. Ergonomics is a technical and creative field and not every solution may be obvious, practical or affordable — but there is no doubt that even modest improvements can significantly decrease your pain.
Discussions about Ergonomics often overlook the fact that long work days in a chair are just a fundamentally bad idea — no matter how good your chair is. Conventional Ergonomics, when “arranging things for efficient use” — tends to exclude the most important thing in your workstation: you!
